Shrimp So Good, You’ll Start Speaking in ATL Slang

These Wicked Colossal Fried Shrimp from ATL’s own @paulyshoreatl ain’t your average seafood snack—they’re bold, seasoned heavy, and fried just right. This ATL classic goes wicked with a blend of Old Bay, Cajun heat, and crispy perfection that slaps straight out the fryer. If you know, you know.

Shrimp has always been a favorite in Black seafood joints and cookouts, but this recipe takes it up a notch. Colossal shrimp are seasoned deep, tossed in a rich mixture of milk, eggs, and spices, then dredged in flour and fried until they’re golden and crunchy. Whether you’re making this for the game, a family function, or just flexin’ in the kitchen, this dish will have folks asking if you opened up your own spot.

Ingredients

For the Shrimp Mixture

  • 1½ lb colossal shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp garlic
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley

For Coating & Frying

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Wash the Shrimp

  • Rinse the colossal shrimp under cold water.
  • Pat them dry.

2. Season the Shrimp

  • Add garlic, salt, pepper, Cajun seasoning, and Old Bay to the shrimp in a bowl.

3. Add the Wet Ingredients

  • Pour in milk and melted butter.
  • Crack in the eggs and stir well.

4. Add Flour and Cornmeal

  • Mix in flour and cornmeal directly into the shrimp bowl until coated.

5. Add Fresh Herbs

  • Chop parsley and fold it into the mixture.

6. Fry the Shrimp

  • Place the coated shrimp into a bag with extra flour.
  • Shake to coat.
  • Fry for 7 minutes until crispy and golden.

Pro Tips & Suggestions

  • Use colossal shrimp for that big, juicy bite.
  • Make sure your oil stays at 350°F for even frying.
  • Let shrimp rest on a rack—not paper towels—to stay crispy.
  • Pair with remoulade, ranch, or hot honey for dipping.
