If you know, you know—smothered turkey wings are that soul-warming, stick-to-your-ribs kind of meal that takes you right back to Grandma’s kitchen. We’re talking fall-off-the-bone turkey, slow-cooked in a rich, flavorful gravy that soaks into every bite. It’s comfort food at its finest, perfect for Sunday dinner, holiday feasts, or when you just want something really good.

These wings get seasoned to perfection, baked low and slow, and basted in a homemade gravy that’s so rich, you’ll want to pour it over everything. Whether you’re serving them up with mashed potatoes, rice, or cornbread, this dish is guaranteed to bring everyone to the table—and have them asking for seconds!

Ingredients

For the Turkey Wings:

  • 4-6 turkey wings, washed and dried
  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or olive oil)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced

For the Gravy:

4 tablespoons butter

½ cup chicken stock

1 tablespoon flour

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Turkey Wings

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.

2. In a large bowl, coat the turkey wings with oil.

3. Season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme, and cayenne (if using).

4. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, mixing well to ensure all the flavors blend together.

5. Cover and let the wings marinate for at least two hours to enhance the flavors.

Step 2: Prepare the Gravy

1. In a small bowl, whisk together ½ cup chicken stock and 1 tablespoon flour until smooth.

2. Set aside for later use.

Step 3: Assemble and Bake

1. Grease a baking dish lightly with oil or butter.

2. Arrange the marinated turkey wings in the dish, making sure to include all the onions and bell peppers—no flavor left behind!

3. Add 4 tablespoons of butter on top of the turkey wings.

4. Pour the chicken stock mixture evenly over the wings.

5. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 1 hour.

Step 4: Flip, Baste, and Bake Again

1. After 1 hour, remove the foil, flip the turkey wings, and baste them with the pan juices.

2. Bake uncovered for an additional 40 minutes, allowing the wings to brown and the flavors to deepen.

3. After 40 minutes, baste one more time for extra moisture and flavor.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!

1. Once done, remove from the oven and let the turkey wings rest for a few minutes.

2. Serve hot with your favorite sides, like mashed potatoes, collard greens, or cornbread, for a complete Southern-style meal.

3. Enjoy, and don’t forget to tag me in your final results!

Pro Tips & Serving Suggestions

Marinate for Maximum Flavor: Let the turkey wings marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight for deeper seasoning.

Use Homemade Stock: If you have homemade chicken stock, use it! It adds rich, natural depth to the gravy.

Don’t Skip the Basting: Basting the wings keeps them moist and ensures a golden, crispy finish.

Pair with Classic Sides: Serve with mac and cheese, collard greens, or rice and gravy for a true Southern meal.
