Rich, Buttery, and Timeless

This Butter Dream Pound Cake is the kind of dessert that brings back memories of warm kitchens and handwritten recipe cards. Made with four sticks of butter and a whole lot of love, it delivers that classic Southern richness and dense, moist crumb that makes pound cake a family favorite. It pairs beautifully with morning coffee, an afternoon cup of tea, or as the crown jewel of a holiday dessert spread.

The subtle notes of vanilla and optional butter extract give it depth, while heavy cream ensures a tender bite. Whether served plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or topped with the optional buttery vanilla glaze, this cake never fails to impress.


Ingredients

  • 4 sticks (2 cups) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs, room temperature
  • 3⅓ cups all-purpose flour (or White Lily for a softer crumb)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1⅓ cups heavy cream, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp butter extract (optional but elevates the flavor)

Optional Glaze: Buttery Vanilla Dream Drizzle

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Prep the Pan and Oven

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • Generously grease and flour a 10-inch bundt or tube pan.

Cream Butter, Sugar, and Eggs

  • In a stand mixer, beat butter on medium speed until creamy and pale.
  • Slowly add sugar, then cream together for 4–5 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Mix the Dry and Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add dry ingredients and heavy cream alternately to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix on low until just combined.
  • Stir in vanilla and butter extract.

Bake the Cake

  • Pour batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top.
  • Bake for 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Glaze (Optional)

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour over cooled cake and let set before slicing.
