Soft, Sweet, and Irresistible: Cinnamon Rolls Done Right

These Classic Cinnamon Rolls are everything your soul craves—pillowy, buttery dough spiraled with a cinnamon-sugar swirl and topped with a silky cream cheese glaze. It’s the kind of treat that makes a morning magical or turns an ordinary brunch into something unforgettable.

Cinnamon rolls have deep roots across cultures, but in many Black households, they’ve become a weekend staple, a love language in edible form. Whether passed down from Grandma’s Sunday baking or reimagined with a modern twist, these rolls bring comfort and sweetness to any table. Ingredients

Dough:

  • 400g plain flour
  • 70g sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (7g)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 210ml warm milk
  • 60g unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Cinnamon Filling:

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 120g soft butter
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon powder

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 120g cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and a pinch of salt.
  • Whisk in warm milk, egg, and melted butter until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Cover and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2. Make the Cinnamon Paste

  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, softened butter, and cinnamon powder until it forms a smooth, spreadable paste.

3. Roll and Fill

  • Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  • Evenly spread the cinnamon paste over the dough.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into even slices (about 1 to 1.5 inches thick).

4. Let the Rolls Rise Again

  • Place the rolls into a greased baking dish.
  • Cover and let them rise for another 30–45 minutes until puffed.

5. Add the Cream & Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Pour ¼ cup of heavy cream evenly over the rolls just before baking.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

6. Make the Frosting

  • In a bowl, mix cream cheese, milk, and powdered sugar until smooth.

7. Glaze and Serve

  • Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy every gooey bite!
