National Chili Day
February 29, 2024
National Chili Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of February. It honors the American dish of chili, also known as chili con carne. The day was created in 2006 by Rich Kelly, the owner of Hard Times Cafe, a chili parlor in Alexandria, Virginia.
This claim is supported by the fact that the first-ever written reference to chili occurred in the city of San Antonio, Texas in 1828. This is just one of the many delicious varieties of food that fall into the category of Tex-Mex.
