If you’re craving a meal that delivers rich flavor, creamy texture, and full satisfaction, this French Onion Rice, Parmesan Meatballs & Cream Gravy combo is exactly what you need. Created by Crista, this dish brings together tender meatballs, deeply flavored French onion rice, and a smooth, savory cream gravy that ties everything together beautifully.

This is the kind of plate that feels like a home-cooked classic, perfect for weeknight dinners or when you want something comforting and filling. Every bite hits with savory depth and creamy goodness, making it a go-to meal when you want something simple but elevated.


Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 2–3 lbs ground beef or ground turkey
  • 2–3 splashes Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1–2 teaspoons garlic powder (or 2 cloves minced garlic)
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 shallot, finely chopped (or ½ small onion)
  • 1 tablespoon dried or fresh basil, chopped if fresh
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¾–1 cup seasoned panko bread crumbs
  • 1 egg (optional, if mixture feels loose)

For the Cream Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
  • ½ medium onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth if using turkey)
  • Salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, to taste
  • ¼–½ cup heavy whipping cream

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine ground meat, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic, green bell pepper, shallot, basil, Parmesan cheese, and panko bread crumbs.
  • Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. If the mixture feels too loose, add the egg to help bind everything together.

2. Form the Meatballs

  • Use an ice cream scoop or a large spoon to portion evenly sized meatballs.
  • Roll gently and place in a lightly greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

3. Bake OR Pan Fry the Meatballs

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown. Internal temperature should reach:
  • 160°F for beef
  • 165°F for turkey

4. Sauté the Onions

5. Build the Gravy

  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to coat evenly.
