National Bloody Mary Day
January 1, 2024
National Bloody Mary Day celebrates the drinking of the Bloody Mary cocktail, which is described by some as the perfect hangover cure–despite the fact that it happens to contain the very thing that made the person hung over in the first place: alcohol!
Origin: Popular theory puts the Bloody Mary’s birthplace in Paris in 1921, where Fernand “Pete” Petiot, bartender at Harry’s New York Bar (then known as The New York Bar), was credited with creating an alcoholic tomato juice cocktail spiced with some salt and pepper and a couple of dashes of Worcestershire sauce.
