Buttery, Garlicky, and Boldly Southern-Inspired

This New Orleans–Inspired BBQ Shrimp is rich, saucy, and unapologetically bold. Bathed in garlic butter, layered with warm spices, and finished with lemon and parsley, this dish delivers deep flavor without ever touching a grill. It’s messy in the best way—meant to be scooped, dipped, and enjoyed with crispy crostini.

Inspired by the iconic New Orleans shrimp style, this version leans into comfort, heat, and aromatics, making it perfect for entertaining, date-night dinners, or anytime you want something indulgent and unforgettable.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Shrimp

  • Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Old Bay seasoning, to taste
  • Smoked paprika, to taste

For the Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 1 stick garlic butter
  • Minced onion, to taste
  • Minced garlic, to taste
  • Worcestershire sauce, to taste
  • White wine, broth, or stock, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes, a pinch
  • Lemon juice, a squeeze
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

For Serving

  • Crostini bread

Step-By-Step Instructions

Season the Shrimp

  • Place shrimp in a bowl and season with Old Bay seasoning and smoked paprika.
  • Toss well until evenly coated.

Build the Garlic Butter Base

  • Melt 1 stick of garlic butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add minced onion and garlic, cooking until fragrant and softened.

Develop the Sauce

  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce.
  • Add white wine, broth, or stock to build the sauce and loosen the butter mixture.

Cook the Shrimp

  • Add the seasoned shrimp directly to the skillet.
  • Toss gently to coat in the sauce.

Finish with Heat and Brightness

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Squeeze in fresh lemon juice.
  • Cook until shrimp are pink, curled, and fully cooked.

Garnish and Serve

  • Finish with chopped parsley.
  • Serve immediately with crostini bread for dipping into the sauce.

Pro Tips & Serving Suggestions

  • Use large or jumbo shrimp for the best texture and presentation.
  • Don’t overcook — shrimp cook fast and should stay tender and juicy.
  • Serve straight from the skillet for a dramatic, shareable moment.
  • Extra sauce is encouraged — this dish is all about dipping.
