What started as a simple weeknight meal turned into a repeat request favorite. This Indonesian Style Jumbo Butter & Garlic Shrimp takes bold Southeast Asian flavors, rich garlic butter, and juicy jumbo shrimp, and transforms them into a dish that’s anything but ordinary.
With ABC sweet soy sauce, a deep garlicky glaze, and a quick fry for crispiness, this shrimp dish hits every note: sweet, savory, tangy, and full of umami. It’s fast, flavorful, and perfect for date night, family dinner, or when you just want to flex in the kitchen.
What You Need: Ingredients
Marinade
- 14–16 jumbo shrimp or prawns, deveined
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp ABC sweet soy sauce
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 2–3 tbsp cornstarch
- Oil, for frying
Garlic Butter & Veg
- ½ onion, cut into squares
- 8 scallions, cut into 2 cm pieces
- 8 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tbsp butter
Sauce
- 4 tbsp sweet soy sauce
- 5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp ABC chili sauce
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp lime juice
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Marinate the Shrimp
Toss shrimp with salt, pepper, sweet soy sauce, lime juice, and cornstarch, then let marinate for 30 minutes.

2. Fry the Shrimp
Deep-fry shrimp in hot oil for 2–3 minutes until golden and cooked through, then set aside to drain.

3. Sauté the Aromatics
Melt butter in a pan, sauté minced garlic for 2 minutes, then add onions and cook for 1 minute.

4. Make the Sauce
Add sweet soy sauce, Worcestershire, oyster sauce, chili sauce, sugar, salt, water, and lime juice; simmer for 1–2 minutes.

5. Glaze the Shrimp
Return shrimp to the pan, toss in the sauce, and cook for another 1–2 minutes until well coated.

6. Finish with Scallions
Add scallions, cook for 30 seconds, and serve immediately while hot.
