You’ll definitely want to try making Japanese Souffle Pancakes. These pancakes are a popular breakfast item in Japan and are known for their tall, airy texture that melts in your mouth. They’re like eating a cloud for breakfast!
Making these pancakes may seem daunting at first, but with a little practice, you’ll be whipping up a batch of perfectly fluffy souffle pancakes in no time. Here’s a recipe to get you started:
Ingredients List (What You Need)
3 large eggs, separated
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Cooking spray
Step By Step Instructions:
Step 1: Separate the egg yolks and whites into two large bowls.
Step 2: In the bowl with the egg yolks, add the sugar and whisk until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
Step 3: Sift the flour and baking powder into the same bowl, and whisk until there are no lumps.
Step 4: Add the milk and vanilla extract to the bowl, and whisk until the batter is smooth and well combined.
Step 5: In the other bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the egg whites and cream of tartar on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.
Step 6: Gently fold the egg whites into the batter, a little bit at a time, until fully combined. Be careful not to over mix, as this will deflate the egg whites and ruin the fluffiness of the pancakes.
Step 7: Heat a nonstick pan over low heat. Spray the pan with cooking spray.
Step 8: Spoon about 1/4 cup of batter onto the pan for each pancake. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the edges start to set and the top is slightly dry.
Step 9: Use a spatula to carefully flip the pancakes over. Cover the pan again and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the pancakes are fully cooked and lightly browned.
Step 10: Serve the pancakes immediately, topped with your favorite syrup, whipped cream, or fruit.
Enjoy your fluffy, delicious Japanese Souffle Pancakes!
