These Cheddar Bay Biscuits Are Buttery, Herby, and Packed with Soul

These Butter Swim Biscuits are soft, cheesy, and infused with garlic-herb butter that soaks into every golden square. The base? A simple drop biscuit dough rich with cheddar and fresh herbs, baked right in a pool of melted butter.

These biscuits are perfect for Sunday dinners, seafood nights, or any time you want to flex your home baking game with minimal effort. No kneading, no fuss—just mix, pour, bake, and brush. Let’s get into it.


Ingredients

For the Biscuits:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt (if using unsalted butter)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tablespoon dried)
  • 1–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup melted butter

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (or ½ tablespoon dried)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Preheat & Prep the Pan

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C).
  • Pour ½ cup melted butter into the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish.

2. Make the Biscuit Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine:
    • Flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder
    • Stir in parsley and shredded cheddar
  • Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

3. Add Dough to Pan

  • Pour or spoon the biscuit dough directly into the buttered baking dish.
  • Spread out evenly and use a knife to score into 9 squares—this helps with easy cutting after baking.

4. Bake

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until golden on top and a toothpick comes out clean.

5. Make Garlic Herb Butter

  • While biscuits bake, melt 3 tbsp butter and stir in garlic powder and parsley.

6. Finish & Serve

  • Remove biscuits from oven and immediately brush with garlic herb butter.
  • Serve warm and get ready for the compliments.
