National Tater Tot Day
February 2, 2024
This lovely day started its devotion to the Tater Tot in 2009. It began as a food writer’s attempt at filling out his copy quota. Once he put it into the cyberspace of Twitter it was an instant hit! When you think about those tiny rectangular bits of shredded potato does your stomach give a little dance of excitement?
Origins: The tater tot itself was invented in 1953 by the Ore-Ida company, which stands for Oregon-Idaho. The Ore-Ida founders, F. Nephi Grigg, Golden Grigg, and Ross Erin Butler Sr., invented tater tots as a way to use excess potato shavings from making frozen french fries.According to the National Day Calendar, National Tater Day may have originated in Kentucky.
