SUMMARY:National Pastry Day
DESCRIPTION:National Pastry Day celebrates one of the world’s most favored baked goods. On December 9th\, visit your local bakery and pick up one or two of your favorite kinds. The pastry is a name given to a large variety of baked goods which are made with ingredients such as flour\, sugar\, milk\, butter\, shortening\, baking powder\, and eggs. Pastry dough is rolled out thinly and then used as a base for different baked products. A few of the more common bakery items include pies\, tarts\, quiches\, and pasties. Bakers create both savory and sweet dishes from the doughs they create. Additionally\, they continue to develop new and delicious creations all the time! \nOrigin: According to CooksInfo\, the first mention of National Pastry Day was in 1995 in California. The holiday has been around since the mid-1990s. It is celebrated on December 9th.

SUMMARY:National Comfort Food Day
DESCRIPTION:Brownies: that rich\, decadent\, purely hedonistic blend of cake and cookie that feels amazing in the mouth and leaves the taste buds craving more. While the classic brownie still reigns supreme\, now there are what seems like a million different derivations of how to make these delicious treats\, but there’s one thing they all have in common. Levels of chocolate so thick and rich they should be illegal! \nOrigin: The first brownies ever made set the bar for the grand indulgence that was to follow. Created for a ladies’ fair luncheon in the late 1800’s\, the first variety of these was found bedecked in an apricot glaze and inundated with delicious walnuts. To this day the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago serves the same recipe as that served to these ladies well over a hundred years ago

SUMMARY:National Cake Day
DESCRIPTION:Origin: The history of cake dates back to ancient times\, and the first cakes are thought to have been made in Ancient Greece and Egypt. These first cakes were rather heavy and flat and were eaten at the end of a meal with nuts and honey. Nowadays\, this type of cake has evolved into baklava\, a traditional Greek dessert and a must-try for any fan of sweet stickiness. In later years the ancient Romans also created their own version of this sweet treat\, which was rather creamy and rich. However\, like in many cultures around the world\, this cake was often reserved for the gods and was offered to them at their temples as a sign of respect\, love\, and reverence.

SUMMARY:National Cranberry Day
DESCRIPTION:On November 23rd\, National Eat a Cranberry Day encourages us to take a bite of the bright red cranberry. But brace yourself! Found in acidic bogs throughout the cooler regions of the northern hemisphere\, cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs\, or trailing vines\, that grow up to 7 feet long and 8 inches high. \nOrigin: Let us first address the unusual name that is “Cranberry”\, what precisely is a cran anyway? Well\, it turns out the name for Cranberry was originally craneberry\, derived from the German “kraanbere”. Why would a berry be named after a bird? Well\, if you guessed it was because the berries were a favorite food of the bird known as the crane? You’d be wrong\, but you would be on the right track. The craneberry got its name due to the English believing that the flowers and stem resembled the neck of that self-same bird. Once settlement of the Americas began the cranberry became a very popular crop\, seeing export to Europe and an embrace as a traditional food for the Thanksgiving Holiday by the colonists. Today cranberry sauce is enjoyed all over the world\, but nowhere near as much as it is in the USA\, where it is considered an important part of every Turkey based holiday\, whether that be Thanksgiving or Christmas. While most people are familiar with the traditional deep red of cranberries\, white cranberries are also popular for their lighter flavor and are the result of harvesting them early before their color deepens.

SUMMARY:National Mulled Cider Day
DESCRIPTION:National Hot Mulled Cider Day is celebrated on September 30th. It’s a day to celebrate the arrival of fall with the scent of cinnamon\, nutmeg\, and apple. \nOrigin: The history of hot mulled cider bears remarkable similarities to the old pagan tradition called Wassailing. The word ‘wassail’ comes from the Anglo-Saxon phrase ‘waes hael’\, which means ‘good health’. The wassail was a drink made of mulled ale\, curdled cream\, roasted apples\, eggs\, cloves\, ginger\, nutmeg and sugar. It was served from huge\, 10-gallon bowls\, often made of silver or pewter. This originally came from a story about a young beautiful maiden presenting the drink to Prince Vortigen\, saying the words “waes hael” in a toast. The term wassailing refers to the act of the bowl being carried into the room with great splendor\, a traditional carol about wassailing and then the beverage was served.

SUMMARY:National Quesadilla Day
DESCRIPTION:Quesadillas were likely invented in the southern regions of Mexico where Aztecs would have made corn tortillas. It’s unclear exactly who started filling these corn tortillas with cheese. While some have suggested that the quesadilla might have been brought to the West from Spain\, it’s more likely that it originated right in Mexico. \nOrigin: National Quesadilla Day (Dia de la Quesadilla) was founded in 2020 by V&V Supremo\, which is an American company that makes cheese and other Mexican products. The idea for the day is simply to show affection and honor for this little food that can act as a snack or an entire meal.
