SUMMARY:National Margarita Day
DESCRIPTION:National Margarita Day celebrates this marvelously-delicious drink\, and the rainbow of colors and flavors it comes in. While it might seem like just some ice cold tequila\, triple sec\, a little salt and a wedge of lime\, this beverage is so much more than the sum of its parts. In fact\, a version can be found for almost any occasion. From Roasted Blueberry Basil Margaritas to the far more punchy Strawberry Sriracha Margarita. From Smoked Mangonada to Spicy Grilled Pineapple—National Margarita Day is a perfect excuse to try them all! \nOne of them was Francisco “Pancho” Morales who was a bartender in Mexico\, who first mixed the cocktail in 1942 in Juárez\, Mexico and then left to become a US citizen and work as a milkman for 25 years. He has the backing of the official Mexican newspaper — Notimex.

How on earth could that be paired with the fudgy\, gooey sweetness of a brownie\, without creating a culinary war on the taste buds? Quite easily\, in fact! And that wonderful person who was the first to think of it? Well\, they may just need to be named as a hero! \nCream cheese\, or at least certain forms of it\, have been found in culinary records in Europe for hundreds of years. This delicious ingredient was mentioned in England as early as 1583! In France\, the earliest records show up about 1651. So clearly\, at least in Europe\, they have a head start on enjoying that morning cream cheese fix. Made from a combination of milk and cream\, what is now recognized today as cream cheese didn’t make its first appearance on the market in the United States until 1873\, when it was first mass produced. The product that eventually led to the Philadelphia Brand was introduced by William A. Lawrence. From Chester\, New York\, he was the dairyman who took this yummy cheese from the farms to the tabletops – and eventually into brownies!

SUMMARY:Pizza Pie Day
DESCRIPTION:Pizza Pie Day takes place on February 9. It is one of the numerous\, delicious food holidays in the U.S. Obviously\, Pizza Pie Day is a day for celebrating pizza\, one of the most popular foods Americans enjoy. Did you know that 36% of Americans eat pizza as a breakfast meal? Historians claim that pizza-like dishes have been a common staple in the ancient Middle East\, but it was Italians who perfected and popularized the recipe. As World War II troops grew fond of pizzas while they served in Italy\, pizzerias also sprung up in the U.S. to meet the returning soldiers’ demands for pizzas. \nBaker Raffaele Esposito of Naples is mainly credited for the recipe and renown of modern pizza. In 1889\, Esposito’s restaurant Pizzeria di Pietro baked a special pie topped with tomato sauce\, basil\, and mozzarella to mark the royal visit of Italian King Umberto I and his wife. Before World War II\, pizza was largely a local dish eaten and sold by Italian immigrants in the U.S. However\, during the occupation of Italy by the Allied Forces\, soldiers resorted to eating local Italian cuisine and eventually grew to love pizza so much that the local bakers were hardly able to keep up with the soldiers’ demand for the dish. The war veterans brought their love for the Italian delicacy idea back home and largely contributed to its popularity in America. In 1905\, Lombardi’s — originally a grocery store in New York City owned by Gennaro Lombardi — became North America’s premier pizzeria. This subsequently led to the proliferation of pizza houses in New York City and all over the U.S. in later years.

SUMMARY:National Bagels and Lox Day
DESCRIPTION:National Bagel and Lox Day recognizes one of America’s favorite bagel combinations on February 9th. Bagels are one of the few breads that are boiled then baked. This creates a soft inside while keeping a crisp outside. \nThe book described a bread that was boiled then baked just as bagels are made today. Today\, we know that bagels are linked to the Jewish community from Poland in the 17th century and lox emerging from Scandinavian fishermen who preserved salmon in saltwater brine.

SUMMARY:Molasses Bar Day
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve never had molasses\, then National Molasses Bar Day would be the perfect and most apt day to try it! Molasses\, or treacle in British English\, is essentially a thick sugary syrup made from sugarcane or sugar beets that contains large amounts of calcium\, iron and magnesium. Beet molasses is 50% sugar by weight\, and sugar is sometimes extracted from beet molasses through molasses desugarization. Cane molasses is more commonly used in cooking. \nThe word molasses actually comes from the Portuguese word “melaco\,” which evolved from the Latin “mel\,” meaning “honey.” This sticky and sweet stuff has been used as far back as the 1500s as a sweetener for food. There are a wide variety of uses for it in cooking; for cookies\, gingerbread\, sauces\, dark rye breads\, beers such as stouts or porters\, and of course\, molasses bars. In middle Eastern culture\, molasses is produced from dates\, grapes and pomegranates. It can also be blended with magnesium chloride and used for de-icing\, or as a soil additive to promote microbial activity. On early printing presses\, it was mixed with glue to case ink rollers.

SUMMARY:National Fettuccine Alfredo Day
DESCRIPTION:Consisting of flat fettuccine pasta ribbons and a white sauce made from cheese\, Fettuccine Alfredo is certainly a favorite for those who love Italian food but are looking for a departure from red sauces and round noodles! National Fettuccine Alfredo Day is here to celebrate and enjoy the fine\, unique flavors that are expressed in this delicious Italian pasta dish! \nFettuccine Alfredo’s origins may be traced back to the 1400s where a couple of different viable stories for its invention have come up through culture. The dish was likely invented in Rome by a man named Alfred di Lelio when he worked in a restaurant that was run by his mother. The story goes that Fettuccine Alfredo was invented in 1907 or 1908 when di Lelio wanted to offer his wife something to eat after she had given birth to their first child. The dish appeared on the menu of his mother’s restaurant before it closed in 1910 and then\, later\, when he opened a restaurant of his own\, Fettuccine Alfredo was on special offering on di Lelio’s menu.
